Description:Tool and Die Maker 

Location: Toronto, ON 
Term: Full time, Permanent
Pay Rate: $38 – $41 per hour – depending on experience. OT after 44 hours worked
Shift: Day Shift
–    Includes 2 weeks’ vacation
–    Benefits after 3 months and pension after 2 years

Scope of Position:
•    Makes all types of intricate tools, jigs, fixtures, punches, molds, gauges and all types of intricate and complicated dies
•    Works from drawings sketches, prototypes, models or instructions
•    Computes dimensions and tolerances and set up machine tools
•    Operates a variety of machine tools to prescribed dimensions and finish
•    Inspects and tests completed tools, dies, jigs or fixtures for proper operation
•    Constructs, maintains, calibrates and repairs simple machine shop tools, gauges, dies, fixtures and jigs

JOB DUTIES:
•    Interpret engineering drawings and specifications of tools, dies, prototypes or models
•    Prepare templates and sketches, and determine work processes
•    Compute dimensions and tolerances and set up machine tools
•    Position, secure, measure and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining
•    Set up, operate and maintain a variety of conventional and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools to cut, turn, mill, plane, drill, bore, grind or otherwise shape workpiece to prescribed dimensions and finish
•    Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as venire calipers, micrometers, co-ordinate measuring machines (CMM) and electronic measuring devices
•    Test completed tools, dies, jigs or fixtures for proper operation
•    May program CNC machine tools

QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Completion of secondary school Grade 12 or equivalent
•    Certificate of qualification in the Trade of Tool and Die Maker
•    Completion of a four year (8000 hour) tool and die making apprenticeship program
•    Work safely, follow general safety rules and report any hazards in their workplace
•    Use equipment, materials and machinery only as authorized
•    Consistently follow EHS general rules and procedures and identify and report any workplace hazards
•    Apply EHS training knowledge, knowledge of Quality Standards and must follow all ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 procedures
